Which scans we do
- Confirmation scan: checking the pregnancy is inside the uterus, seeing the heartbeat and the number of embryos.
- Dating the pregnancy from the size of the embryo.
- Follow-up scans during the pregnancy to see how your baby is developing.
A complement to your pregnancy care
Your full pregnancy follow-up and the birth are managed by your health centre, hospital or the specialist you choose. Our scans complement that care: a relaxed visit to see your baby and answer the questions that come up at each stage.
When to book your first scan
Once you have a positive pregnancy test, you can book. In the first weeks it may still be too early to see the heartbeat; when you book, we will suggest the best time based on the date of your last period.
When to go to A&E
If during pregnancy you have heavy bleeding, severe abdominal pain, a fever, or notice your baby moving less than usual, do not wait for an appointment: go to your hospital’s emergency department.
